Little Berry Button’s Simple Low-Tox Swaps for Your home and family

3 minute read

In recent months, I've become increasingly aware of the potential impact everyday toxins can have on our health and well-being. This growing awareness has sparked my interest in exploring ways to minimize the harmful chemicals introduced into our homes. I'm eager to learn more about the ways we can help achieve this by making simple and cost effective changes to our daily routines and lifestyle. For those who aim to live a more eco-friendly lifestyle and reduce their carbon footprints, embracing simple low-tox swaps not only supports environmental sustainability but can also offer additional health benefits. I certainly don’t confess to being an expert in this field but I thought i’d create this blog post to share some of what i’ve learnt so far.

What Does “Low - Tox” Actually Mean?

Creating a safer home environment for your family starts with small, thoughtful changes that reduce exposure to harmful chemicals. As families become more aware of the potential dangers hidden in everyday products, many are seeking ways to adopt low-tox living strategies. Simple swaps can significantly decrease the presence of toxins in your home. These changes not only contribute to a healthier living space but also promote long term wellness for both children and adults. By making informed choices about the products you bring into your home, you can create a protective haven that supports the health and well-being of your entire family.

Ditch the Plastic

Studies show that swapping our food and drink containers from plastic to glass or stainless steel significantly reduces the BPA and Phthalate levels within our body. Plastic surfaces can be microscopically porous and can harbour bacteria where’s as glass and stainless steel are inert, meaning they do not leach chemicals into food or beverages.

Shoes off please!

Outdoor shoes can carry traces of little nasties like pesticides, bacteria and chemicals. A simple fix is to simply leave them at the door to prevent these pollutants from being spread inside your home.

Crack Open the Windows

Open windows for air ventilation. Many toxins such as VOCS (volatile organic compounds) from things like cleaning products, dust and cooking fumes can concentrate the air indoors. Opening a window for just a few minutes a day can help remove these.

Choose Products With Natural EMF Protection

Electromagnetic Fields (EMFs) are invisible energy waves emitted by electronic devices, such as WiFi routers, mobile phones, power lines, and smart meters. This technology mimics the natural healing frequencies found in nature, helping to create a calming and supportive environment for your child. EMF protection can be infused into many home and lifestyle products. At Little Berry Button we stock protection bunnies and bears that are permanently infused with Orgone Effects® Orgonium® technology, a unique process that neutralises over 30 different sources of harmful EMF fields,

Natural Air Purifiers

Many houseplants can act as a natural air purifier including Snake Plants, Spider Plants, Pathos, Dracaena and Peace Lillies. They filter out common toxins like formaldehyde and benzene. These plants enhance indoor air quality by absorbing pollutants through leaves and roots while releasing oxygen.

Montessori Play

Maria Montessori's approach was originally built around natural materials, real world textures and simple, purposeful design. A plastic free Montessori environment isn't just aesthetically pleasing; it's practical, durable, and deeply aligned with how children learn. Natural wooden toys are a non-toxic and environmentally friendly option for parents who want to provide their children with safe, healthy playtime. Unlike plastic toys that can contain harmful chemicals, such as phthalates and BPA, natural wooden toys are made from sustainable materials that do not harm the environment or your child's health.

Low-tox living doesn't have to happen all at once. Hopefully, these simple tips give you some ideas for easy, affordable ways to refresh your home at your own pace.
