According to the Office of National Statistics, names inspired by nature, belonging to princesses or beloved during bygone eras seem to be back in style for little ladies. Popular new entries include Maeve, Ava and Ivy but the official top spot goes once again to ever in vogue Olivia - a firm favourite for the last few years in the UK.
Back to the boys, and names fit for a Prince continue to be popular choices - George, Archie and Harry all featured heavily on the official chart as well as on my order list. Parents tended to favour powerful and unique names even more this year, with new entries from Xander, Axel and Zayn becoming popular too.
Culture also remains a huge influence for naming our offspring - it’s no surprise that in a year still filled with some uncertainty and more time spent at home with entertainment as our form of escapism, our attention turned to music, film and celebrity for inspiration.
From recording artists such as Olivia Rodrigo, and home streaming series such as Bridgerton, to Marvel based supernatural shows like Loki, there’s no doubt that baby naming trends are shaped by our surroundings.
